Rapid Test for Detection of Melamine in Cereals

Melamine is a nitrogen-rich chemical compound widely used in the production of resins, plastics, adhesives, and laminates. However, the unauthorized presence of melamine in food products, particularly milk and dairy products, milk powder, and animal feed, can pose a significant health risk. Melamine may be illegally added to food products to artificially increase the apparent protein content, resulting in food adulteration. Exposure to high levels of melamine can cause kidney damage and the formation of melamine–cyanuric acid crystals and kidney stones. Therefore, monitoring and controlling melamine contamination throughout the food production and supply chain is of significant importance.

In this context, the Melamine Rapid Test Kit developed by Fartak Teb is designed for the rapid and specific detection of melamine in food and animal feed samples. The kit is based on the principle of specific receptor–ligand interaction, in which melamine is recognized as the target ligand by a biological receptor with high specificity and binding affinity. The specific interaction between the receptor and melamine in the rapid test platform produces a visible color change, enabling rapid screening of samples.

Due to its rapid analysis, ease of use, suitable specificity, good stability, and point-of-need applicability, this technology provides a practical approach for the rapid monitoring of melamine contamination and the detection of food adulteration in food products and animal feed.
